Menschwerdung (german for humanization) is a project dedicated to the experience of not fitting in, being disconnected from the humans around us.
When we as social beings feel like we’re out of place, not belonging into the social settings surrounding us day to day, an overwhelming sense of “not being human enough” can arise.
The photographs in this series visualize feelings of estrangement by placing people in odd or unfitting settings and poses that disconnect them from the people or environment around them.
All participating models have experienced situations or periods of alienation and unsuccessful conformity to social standards. This work attempts to express the model’s inner world via the visual medium of photography.
